Public translation, commonly known as sworn translation in Brazil, is a type of translation carried out by a public translator, also referred to as a sworn translator. The public translator and business interpreter - in its correct title - is trained in one or more foreign languages as well as Portuguese, being appointed and registered in the commercial registry of their state of residence upon approval by public tender. Only sworn (public) translations are officially recognized by various institutions and government agencies in Brazil and are valid as an official or legal document. For a document in a foreign language to be valid in Brazil, it must be accompanied by its respective sworn translation.
